Based in Paramus, New Jersey, the Tri-State Italian-American Congress dedicates itself to the preservation of and education about Italian-American heritage. Under President Louis Fusco, Jr., the organization hosts numerous events recognizing Italian Americans who have contributed to their communities. In May 2012, it held a dinner reception celebrating Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr., President of Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., for his achievements in teaching youth and maintaining his heritage.

Another important cause for the Tri-State Italian-American Congress concerns the education of future generations. To improve their chances of success, it offers college scholarships of up to $5,000 to qualified individuals. Requirements for eligibility include enrollment in a full-time accredited institution for the coming fall, a grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0, and at least one ancestor who came to America from Italy. Additionally, the organization provides the Edward Cardinal Egan Scholarship for students interested in pursuing a Catholic education.
